SEXUAL HARASSMENT RESOURCES IN MASSACHUSETTS

It can be hard knowing what to do if you have been subjected to sexual harassment, or something you think may be sexual harassment, in the workplace.  In addition to speaking with an employment lawyer to better understand your legal rights, here are some additional resources.
Sexual Harassment, Hostile Work Environment, or Workplace Bullying?
Workplace bullying is not (at least not yet) unlawful, but sexual harassment is.  See these links for more information:

Advice on How to Handle Harassment With Your Employer
  • Advice from Human Resources professionals about how an employer should respond when an employee files a complaint about sexual harassment or bullying.
  • EEOC guidance on what you should do if you believe you have been harassed at work.
  • Advice about what to do if you have been harassed but your company does not have a Human Resources Department
  • A therapist's observations about handling sexual harassment in the workplace
How to File a Complaint with MCAD or the EEOC
If you don't have time to get help from a lawyer before the 300 day statute of limitations runs on your sexual harassment claim, you can file directly with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination ("MCAD") or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC").  There are both federal and state laws against sexual harassment, and you can file with either MCAD (the state agency) or EEOC (the federal agency).
